Nanny Job Details

Job ID: 5125
Location: Lafayette, CO

Please describe your family:
We are a busy family of four. We enjoy hiking and biking, chilling out in front of the TV, reading, and spending quiet time with our hobbies. We have a big black lab who is very mellow and sweet.

Please describe why you are looking for a nanny:
Mom works Mondays and Wednesdays. Dad works A LOT. Periodically, Dad travels over weekends and I need a sitter for 11:30 a.m. – 10 p.m. at night. We also occasionally need a date night on Friday or Saturday. We want someone whose priority is engaging positively with the kids.

Describe the child(ren) you need a nanny for:
My son is 9.5. He is very independent, but still likes attention from adults. He loves video games (but is not allowed to play them on weeknights) soccer, swimming, Lego, biking, reading, TV, eating and traveling. He is usually a fun and easy kid.
My daughter is 5.5. She loves to ride her bike, water the garden, color, do crafts, swing, slide, swim, dance, and have stories read to her. She is a fun, sweet kid. She is recently adopted, previously lived in an orphanage, and did not speak English prior to her adoption. She has made great progress with English and is pretty easy to understand, though not fluent. She is very active, but not hyperactive. She can be challenging, but not exceptionally so. (You don't survive in an orphanage for two years without some attitude).
She needs lots of attention and TLC. She takes some time to warm up to a new person. There is some sibling rivalry, but the kids also like to play together.

Describe your home setting: We live in a single family home in neighborhood that borders on Coal Creek trail. We have a good-size, fenced yard. Our dog has a dog door and is in and out all day. Our house is never particularly clean.

What tasks/errands do you expect your nanny to perform?
Prepare simple meals (pizza, sandwiches, pasta cut up apples) and ideally, clean up after including the dishes (though if the kids are being difficult, need extra attention, have many activities, it's understandable that cleanup might not happen). Help with homework. Drive kids to activities (and back, no matter how difficult they are :) ).

What activities do you want your nanny to do with your child?
The kids love do do just about anything: Crafts, biking, hiking, reading, music....

What special certifications/requirements are you looking for?
Must love big friendly dogs and kids. Must be willing to stay in the room with six-year-old girl until she falls asleep at night.

How many hours do you need a nanny for?
Typically, Mondays and Wednesdays 2:30 p.m. - 7 p.m. Optional: Occasionally, Sunday 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. ; Occasionally, Monday 7:30-5:30 p.m. Monthly date night.

How much are you willing to pay? Do you offer benefits?
15 an hour. No benefits. Gas money negotiable, depending on kids' activities.

Do you have any pets or animals in your home?
Big loving Labrador Retriever.

What else are you looking for in a nanny?
We want someone who will play with the kids and do activities with them. Someone who is laid back, but sets firm limits (Tomas' homework). Someone willing to give my newly adopted daughter some extra TLC and patience.

Additional comments:
The kids are pretty typical in that they are not always thrilled to go to soccer/karate/gymnastics right after school (For that matter, neither am I)! We try to balance some strict rules about getting homework done and to activities on time with the kids' need for "chill time". Nanny will need to do the same. We will work together to include incentives for the kids to cooperate.
