Nanny Job Details

Job ID: 5432
Location: Broomfield, CO

Please describe your family:
I am a single dad with a 13-year old son,who attends 8th grade at Platt Middle School in S.E. Boulder. He spends one week with me, then one week with his mom in Lafayette and this cycle repeats throughout the year with occasional exceptions for holidays and personal vacations. He and I have a great father/son relationship.

Please describe why you are looking for a nanny:
I run a business and have a busy but flexible schedule. For the past several years, I have taken him to school in the morning and picked him up after school during the weeks he is with me. I am looking for help with this going forward. This assignment is one week on and one week off for childcare, coinciding with my parenting schedule. I am willing to provide additional hours on the off weeks for the right person to do some household management and meal preparation during the weeks he is not with me. There is also a possibility of picking up him after school and taking him to his mom's home in Lafayette during the weeks he is with her. That, however, would not be the initial assignment and would depend on how things go at my home for the first several weeks and whether his mom would be interested to that kind of arrangement.

Describe the child(ren) you need a nanny for:
He is a kind and warmhearted kid. He loves pop music. He likes to show me his dance moves at home but is reluctant to do them in public. He is much more an introvert than extrovert and would play video games and watch YouTube all day long given the chance. He likes riding his bike around our neighborhood but otherwise, he is not a big sports fan. He has a couple friends in our neighborhood who he plays with from time to time. He is an average to slightly below-average student and can get overwhelmed with all the activity at school. Sometimes, when faced with multiple simultaneous sensory inputs, he can withdraw or shut down for a minute or two before regaining his composure. He needs a lot of reminders to start his homework and often needs support completing his homework, such as how to begin an assignment, what to do next, what to do after that, how to know when the assignment is done, and reminders to actually turn in the assignment in class. A nanny who understands the concept of executive function supportĀ and has experience helping kids build organizational skills can be successful with him. Similarly, he needs someone with a flexible approach to working with him. A dictatorial style absolutely will not work. Negotiating with him that if he does 30 minutes of school work, he can take a 15-minute break is what does work with him. The ability to monitor his homework progress and be sensitive to his becoming frustrated, while suggesting that he take a break before he gets to the point of quitting, and then, after his break, helping him work through whatever he was struggling with is an approach/skill that can be very valuable when working with him. The ability to provide effective learning/homework support is a significant part of this assignment.

Describe your home setting: We live in a nice condo in Broomfield near the northeast corner of Hwy 36 and Northwest Parkway (across the highway from Flatiron Crossing Mall). With good traffic, it is a 12-minute drive from Platt Middle School to our home.
