Experience: I have worked with children on and off now for 10 years. I started out in the Montessori pre-school setting, where I worked as a classroom aid, and then moved on to work as a pre-school teacher for a Children's House Montessori school for 4 years. I then became a nanny for a family with two energetic twin boys. While working for this family, I served as a sort of family helper where I would help with chores such as light house work, cooking dinner, running errands, etc. House-sitting and take care of pets when they went on vacations was another of my responsibilities. I met this family when the boys were just turning 4 and have stayed in touch, they are now about to start their freshman years of high school! Since then I have done on-call babysitting, and cared for a couple of little girls for quite some time as their after school nanny. I was also the infant room care provider at a Kinder Care center for two years.

Experience with the following age groups: Infants through school age

Interests and hobbies:I love animals and enjoy spending my spare time riding my horses. I also love to read, cook, hike, camp, and snow boarding. I'm also a part time blogger for an online fashion magazine, Novelty Bride, and have broken into some freelance copy writing.

Describe your childcare style:I love being around kids. They make life fun, from celebrating holidays to the Sundays I spend with my niece and nephew, when there are kids around, life is a little less serious and more joyful. I do, however, have a "stern" child care style as well. I need there to be good communication between myself and the childrens parents about what is expected, and I don't tolerate disrespect. I have respect for the children I care for, and making the time I have with them fun is always a priority, but it's important that I feel respected as well. It can come down to a matter of safety, and I think it's very important that the children I take care of are good listeners (for the most part..) and have a generally good understanding of what's expected of them as well.

What activities do you like to do with children:I am all about making sure the children have lots of fun while in my care. I love being able to take children outside to go on nature walks, to the zoo, swimming, and bike rides. Just as fun indoor activities that I've provided include trips to library story times, WOW children's museum, theater, and time spent at home where I've done baking/cooking projects, played hide-n-seek, helped with homework, board games, and much more.

Why are you interested in working as a Nanny or Babysitter? As the summer season approaches I'm thinking I would love the chance to get to be a nanny again for the season... Or maybe longer depending on the circumstance. I'm an esthetician and provide skin care services as my career, but as I'm building my career, some supplemental income is needed. My top choice is to get to work with kids again, I've really missed it!

What qualities are important in a Nanny or Babysitter?Patience, positivity, understanding, sensitivity, nurturing, humor, as well as confidence, knowledge, and a good grasp of each child's needs and personality in your care.

Additional comments: I am a firm believer that children benefit very much from routine, even if not a strict one, and from care givers whom are able to stand their ground. Life does get tougher the older we get, so I think preparing children by teaching them about consequences for their actions, both good and bad, is essential. I believe in both positive reinforcement, recognizing and acknowledging good choices, and following through with set forth consequences when bad choices are made. I find both to be important and beneficial to children.
