I have been working with children since I was one myself as I began babysitting at the age of 12. At 13 I started working at a health club nursery where I worked with children from 6 months to 10 years old. I also became a summer camp counselor at the same health club throughout my high school and some of my college career. In college I became a nanny for various families in the Boulder County area. I worked as an after school helper for school aged children and then became full time with a family of three young boys, an infant, two, and four years old. I have continued to babysit for family and close friends since my graduation from college. In 2010 I went back to school to obtain my teaching license. I am a licensed Secondary Social Studies and English teacher and am currently working on my MA in Linguistically Diverse Education. I love kids! :)

As a Colorado native, I enjoy anything and everything outdoors. I am an avid skier, I have dabbled in running, and I try to practice yoga at any opportunity I get. I am a music enthusiast and find myself at concerts as many times as my wallet will allow! Children and education are my biggest passion, however, and I love turning mundane activities into learning experiences. Getting children excited about reading is another hobby of mine and I love spending time at the local library finding hidden treasures for my kiddos.

I am a licensed teacher in Secondary Social Studies and English as well as CPR and First Aid certified.

Describe your childcare style:

I am all about fun! As an educator I capitalize on teachable moments and do my best to make daily chores or activities a learning experience, and an enjoyable one at that. I believe that behavior expectations need to be clear and that appropriate consequences result for misbehavior. I am fun but fair!

What activities do you like to do with children:

I love to spend time outdoors as much as possible. Hiking, swimming, going to the park or the zoo, or playing in the backyard are just a few things I like to do with children. Indoor time includes trips to the museum or the library, arts and crafts at home, or maybe just reading time. The TV is rarely ever on in my presence (unless it is for educational purposes).

Why are you interested in working as a nanny?

I look at the work of a nanny as a chance to fine tune my skills working with children. It is an incredible opportunity to become a mentor to a child and find ways to get them excited about learning and living. Students who come back to school from summer already in learning mode have a much easier time transitioning back into the language and expectations of school; giving them a head start to a successful year!
