Experience: I have always loved being around children! I have been a childhood educator/caregiver for the past 13 years. During college I worked at an Arts and Crafts Studio which provided after-school care for children ages 4 1/2 to 10 years. Children are able to have physical exercise as well as do their homework but there are also many art classes for children to participate in. I started a summer camp in Hawaii for children ages 5 to 9 years. I designed the curriculum for the 12 week summer program, created and conducted art activities and outings and educated children on local surroundings. I supervised up to 8 children for 8 hours a day, managed 3 employees and provided meals and snacks to the children. I also had the opportunity to work with grieving youth. We conducted support groups for youth and families experiencing grief from the loss of a loved one from death, divorce, separation, or incarceration. I facilitated play therapy groups with children ages 3 to 18 years and led community art activities. I have also served as a caregiver for the elderly. I was responsible for everything from changing diapers and clothing, preparing appropriate meals to offering support and companionship during the last days of life. I am currently a lead teacher at a Montessori school in the 3 to 5 years classroom. I do lesson planning, record keeping, create new materials, conduct staff meetings, and organize weekly "specials" such as music, Spanish class, and story time with a local library volunteer.

Experience with the following age groups: Infants, Toddlers, Preschool, Middle School, High School. I have cared for up to 8 children at a time for 8 hours a day 5 days a week.

Interests and hobbies:I love making things, especially for other people. I enjoy designing arts and crafts projects as well as focusing on the fine arts. My favorite mediums are oil paint on canvas or wood and black and white film photography. I love exploring the outdoors and finding hidden treasures in nature. I enjoy hiking, climbing, and camping. I grew up by the ocean and enjoy swimming (in the ocean, rivers and lakes!), surfing on a surfboard, bodysurfing, and bodyboarding. I love reading. I have a daily meditation and yoga practice. I enjoy singing, playing music and dancing. I frequently drink tea and enjoy making banana bread for myself and friends. I also love animals!

Describe your childcare style:I am very nurturing, compassionate and patient. I think the most important thing is for children to feel safe and loved. I maintain a caring, empathic and fun-filled attitude throughout the day while connecting with children on a personal level and helping them express themselves in effective and powerful ways. I love exploring outdoors with children. I believe in supporting each childs natural unfoldment. I think it is invaluable to have strong role models in childrens lives. I believe it is important to set boundaries and be firm at times but never shame children. I know how to have fun with children while keeping them safe and helping them learn healthy ways to interact with each other and the world around them.

What activities do you like to do with children:I love to translate in-depth art experiences into fun and enriching, age-appropriate art projects for children. It is so important to read to and with children. I enjoy everything from nature walks to reading to dancing to jumping on the trampoline and playing games. One of my favorite activities is collecting found objects from our adventures outdoors and making mobiles and other found object art. I strongly believe in being active and learning about the wondrous world around us. I enjoy field trips to the library and local museums because they are fun and educational!

Why are you interested in working as a Nanny or Babysitter? I have a natural talent in working with and relating to children in unique and creative ways. I genuinely enjoy interacting with children, seeing the world through their eyes, teaching as well as learning from them, encouraging their self-esteem and growth. I take great pride in my work and receive a sense of satisfaction from knowing that I have made a difference in a childs life. I genuinely love being around children!

What qualities are important in a Nanny or Babysitter?Nannies serve as role models in childrens lives. I feel its important for nannies to have very high integrity and always do the right thing. Effective nannies are very compassionate and loving so the child always feels safe and loved. I like to remember Maria Montessoris philosophy to “follow the child” and always learn from them and help them learn for themselves, rather than trying to teach them. I personally feel it is highly beneficial for children to interact with the world around them through art and movement so creativity plays a role. I believe clear and honest communication with parents is invaluable.

Additional comments:I look forward to meeting you and your family!!
