Experience: I started taking care of children when I was thirteen, babysitting around the neighborhood, and taking care of my younger brother. Since then, I have nannied and babysat for several families, many of them consistently over the course of many years, in between High School and College. I have experience taking care of children from as young as ten months and as old as thirteen. The bulk of my experience, however, is with kids between two and nine. Many of the families I have worked with have also had dogs and cats, and I must say, I prefer animals in the home. I consider them to be one of the kids as well, and I love playing with and taking care of them. In some cases I have cared for my nanny kids, as well as their friends who would come over to play, making for quite a full household, and contrarily, I also have no problem taking care of just one child. I have a lot of experience working with kids in the arts. I lead and organized an outreach program in high school that focused on an after school arts program for elementary school kids, where arts funding was going down the drain. Each week we introduced a new kind of art form to the kids. I am a strong advocate for the arts when it comes to teaching children. I believe it to be a necessary outlet, no matter what form it is. Besides taking care of children, almost all of my nanny jobs have involved light housework, some errands and cooking.

Experience with the following age groups: As young as ten months and as old as thirteen, though the majority of my experience is with the two to nine year range. I just recently finished nannying for a two year old boy, and love this age! I am now nannying for a 13 year old when she gets off school in the afternoon Monday-Friday.

Interests and hobbies:I love love love to cook. I am an amateur photographer and I love to act, sing and dance. I have played the harp since I was six, and I love to read. I love arts and crafts and gardening and I like to stay active in my learning. I am of the philosophy that we never stop being learners, as long as we stay open to new things. When I am not doing these things, I am usually out and about, taking a work out class, going for a hike or bike ride, or lounging in parks with friends. I am a native of Denver, and I do not think I will ever tire of a perfect mountain sunset. I will never lose interest in just watching the sun go down.

Describe your childcare style:I love to get kids excited about the enticement of an adventure, and anything can be an adventure if you make it one. I have a healthy sense of play and whether it’s homework, learning something new, or just goofing around, engaging the children at an active level that inspires creativity, thoughtfulness, and excitement is my go to approach. I will not baby children, I encourage them to be open and clear in their communication, and when problems arise, I am all about helping them to come to their own solutions. I think truly listening to kids and acknowledging their thoughts and feelings is of the utmost importance. I treat them with respect and expect it in return. I think that children, and all people really, are at their best when they feel safe. Fostering an environment where kids can express themselves freely with out fear of being judged is very important to me. I am, of course capable of being grounded and authoritative, but only when it is necessary.

What activities do you like to do with children:Each family needs something different and the activities I did with my nanny families have all varied slightly. Going on outings to pools, aquariums and museums are always fun, as are picnics in the park. I like to play with the kids, whether its a make believe game, or teaching them how to cook something. I studied acting in college or as it applies to nannying, professional play, I have so many funky educational games up my sleeve that need to be put to use. And as you might expect, I love playing make believe. But really it just depends on the family, I will adapt to whatever the situation may be.

Why are you interested in working as a Nanny or Babysitter? I genuinely enjoy spending time with children, I always learn something new when I spend time with them, and I like what kids bring to the table, a contagious excitement for being alive primarily, but also their sense of fun and light heartedness. Being able to be apart of their lives in a significant way brings great meaning to me.

What qualities are important in a Nanny or Babysitter?Reliable, responsible, openly communicative, passionate, engaged and engaging, nurturing, grounded, fun, patient, attentive, punctual, organized and kind.
