Experience: I have ten years of experience, which helps growing up in a family of nine. I am the oldest daughter of 7 children and have an innate sensibility for care taking. I am currently caring part-time for two families (4&7 yo and 15 months) during the week, as I work toward obtaining my certification in American Sign Language Interpreting. Previously, I have been a live-in nanny for a child in elementary school and worked for an agency where I worked on call for a wide range of families who had children ranging from infants to teens.

Experience with the following age groups: I have worked with newborn babies, teens and all age groups in between. I have a great deal of experience especially with children in the 3-7 age range.

Interests and hobbies:I enjoy staying passionately curious about exploring my creativity. I love to work with many different mediums and I love getting direction for a project based on reusing excess or recycling old materials. My favorite outlets are within sewing and paper-crafting. I also love to stay active and can often be found scrambling in the mountains, climbing or playing tennis. I carry a love for literature and am always in the middle of a great book.

Describe your childcare style: My approach to childcare is based on the basic value of respect. I believe it is crucial to development that children are treated with respect as another human being. I do not believe in talking down to children or over simplifying. I have found that children become more industrious and self-reliant when they experience respect. My style of childcare is very hands-on. I like to get down on the floor and play with the children at eye level, but I also understand the need for children to be independent. With my ten years of experience, I have a cache of activities to do with children that range from athletic to creative to academic and everything in between. I like to apply my knowledge and experience of child development to encourage growth and positive experiences. I find it important to help the child self-advocate and to be respectful. I do not tolerate disrespect.

What activities do you like to do with children: I prefer to take a non electronic approach to childcare. I am not adverse to the benefits of technology, but as a service provider I prefer not to rely on television or computers. As I do in much of my free time, I enjoy taking children outdoors on hikes, picnics, or making games in the backyard or park. I love to encourage exploration and a sense of wonder about our surroundings. I also enjoy stimulating creativity within the child(ren). I welcome the challenge of tailoring creative endeavors to the interests and capabilities of the child to assist in cognitive development as well as self-expression.

Why are you interested in working as a Nanny or Babysitter? I have an innate sensibility to working with children of all ages. Growing up in a large family I was comforted to be surrounded by the honesty and idiosyncratic qualities of children. I love taking part of their deep curiosity and pure, simplistic joy. I find their company to be an inspiration to live my life more simple and to follow joy.

What qualities are important in a Nanny or Babysitter? First and foremost, a nanny should enjoy the company of children. S/he should also be patient and compassionate. A nanny should have a basic understanding of the cognitive and emotional stages and changes that children experience. It is important that a care taker knows how to make swift and safe decisions. A care taker should be flexible enough to follow the family dynamic and practices, but strong enough to enforce the house rules and not give in to the cuteness of children.

Additional comments: I look forward to meeting your beautiful family!
