Experience: I am now nearing two years of full time experience with infants and toddlers. During college, I did a lot of part time care for various families, with most children being either toddlers or school age children. I have encountered a variety of parenting styles, and know the importance of adjusting to meet each familys specific needs. In particular, I have sleep trained infants using both the Babywise and Weissbluth/Ferber methods. Though I have no explicit experience with attachment parenting, it is an approach I am very interested in.

Experience with the following age groups: Infants, toddlers, preschool, school age.

Interests and hobbies:I live a low key life. I usually spend my weekends watching documentaries and going on walks around town with my husband. Weeknights are usually spent with a book and a cup of tea. I ran a marathon in 2011 and enjoy running whenever the weather and my schedule allows. I like to watch, read, and think about the following, food, nutrition, religion, civil rights, early childhood development, pregnancy, and medicine. I toy with the idea of eventually pursuing a path as a pediatric, neonatal, or obstetrical nurse.

Describe your childcare style:It is important to let infants and toddlers learn and move forward at their own pace. I am attentive and take cues from the children as to what they want to do and learn. Every child is different, and there is no one size fits all method of care. When a toddler gets frustrated with a toy or a task, I assist them in the process of finding a solution rather than swoop in to solve the problem myself. I take an active role in playtime, and have even worn out the knees on a pair of jeans from so much playing on the floor! I tailor activities to developmental stages, and make sure infants get plenty of tummy time. I also encourage independent play as children get older. The ability to entertain oneself contributes to self confidence, creativity, and focus, skills with benefits that extend well beyond childhood.

What activities do you like to do with children:I enjoy reading with children of all ages. Literacy is a lifelong process, and the spoken word is of utmost importance for development in early childhood. Language in equals language out! I also try to get outdoors with children at least once a day. A change of environment stimulates the mind and keeps us from going stir crazy. I am happy to take your children to parks, libraries, and playgroups. I have gotten particular enjoyment from taking the child I currently care for to music class, and I regularly integrate music play into our daily activities.

Why are you interested in working as a Nanny or Babysitter? I wake up every morning excited to go to work! I can not imagine being happy doing anything else! My job is a duty and a privelage, and I am honored to be needed by someone. Such crucial development takes place in the first few years of life, and continues on. I hope to do all I can to support and guide this growth.

What qualities are important in a Nanny or Babysitter?Patience, patience, patience. The world is new and confusing for a little human. Always keep that in mind before becoming frustrated with anything a child does. A caregivers job is to escort children along the learning path and persist through any obstacles with strength and love. A nanny must also be attentive in order to understand the wants and needs of the children in her care. This trait is especially important when it comes to needing help identifying and expressing their emotions. In addition, a sense of humor comes in handy when faced with some of lifes more...messy problems!

Additional comments:I want to work with a family committed to keeping an open and honest line of communication between caregiver and parents. It is very important for nanny and family to be on the same page; consistency is vital to all children having a happy, healthy upbringing!
