Since August 2013 I have been working as a teacher with 2 and 3 year olds in a Reggio inspired school, where I am interning as I complete my M.A. In 2012 to 2013 I was a teacher in a Montessori classroom with mixed ages, children 18 months to 3 years. For 3 years I worked in respite care and in preschools with clients who were at risk or who had special needs, ages infant to 21 years. Also, I worked for 3 years in a church as a teacher in an enrichment program and in the nursery. I have various other experiences with children, including volunteer work at an art school for children, babysitting, and training in early literacy instruction.

Experience with the following age groups: Infant to 21

Interests and hobbies:Mostly, I love working with children! Also, I enjoy planning fun enrichment and learning experiences to do with children. Outside of my work with children, I enjoy going on hikes, making art and various crafts, playing the piano and djembe, and going out on dates with my husband.

Describe your childcare style:Loving, compassionate, patient, gentle, reflective, consistent, clear limits, and fun! Children need to feel respected, loved, and that their needs are being met first. Children need logical consequences as well, but it is important to really think about what is appropriate for the developmental stage of the child, and children individually. I believe in working with parents to find the best strategies for working with their children. I believe that it is important for children to always be engaged and that they need to be kept busy with fun things to do as well as lots of time for creative and imaginative play. Children want to be seen as capable and desire the opportunity to try things that are difficult for them. Adults need to be patient in allowing children as much time as the children want to try to do things on their own (like putting on their own shoes, etc). It is also important that children are not pushed to do difficult tasks before they are ready. I believe in following the interests of children, and doing my best to provide the resources for them to be able to fully investigate their curiosities and learning.

What activities do you like to do with children:All different kinds of art, drawing, gluing, stamping, painting, printmaking, clay, sewing, weaving, etc. Music: singing songs, songs with fingerplays, playing instruments, drums, bells, shakers, etc. Reading books and literacy activities, reading our favorite books, acting out the story, having the child tell me the story, talking about questions relating to the book, talking about the letters in the book etc. Also, working with letters and matching them to names, words, etc, or practicing writing letters. Physical exercise, playing chase, dancing, doing yoga, riding bikes, going on a walk, hopping, jumping, climbing, crawling, etc. Daily activities like cooking, cleaning, watering the plants and daily chores. All kinds of play!

Why are you interested in working as a Nanny or Babysitter? I love working with children and would enjoy working with smaller ratios in a home setting. As a nanny, it is possible to build really strong relationships with parents in order to best support their children.

What qualities are important in a Nanny or Babysitter?Kind, personable, patient, creative, reliable, organized, and passionate about their work with children.

Additional comments:I would prefer to work with toddlers or preschool aged children, with more than one child, and possibly doing a nanny share. I would like to have a rhythm to our day, with fun activities and indoor and outdoor play times. It would also be a plus if the family had an area of the house that could be used as a space where children can be free to work on ongoing projects, and where art supplies and materials are organized and accessible for the children to use.
