Experience: I have been a nanny for the last seven and a half years, working for multiple families. All the children were seven and younger, plus a girl with Downes Syndrome. We were together when she was aged nine through twelve. I had a graduate school internship at a childrens hospital. I have worked in private and corporate day care centers and nursery schools. I was an individual developmental therapist for an agency serving children under three years old. I ran a summer art program for a day camp for children with diabetes. I was assistant to the director and summer counselor for a theater program for girls at risk. I have been a school aid for a three year old with MS. I have been a home team member and school aid for a four year old with autism.

Experience with the following age groups: Three months to seven years, primarily.

Interests and hobbies:I love improvisation in art, movement and theater and I have an artistic project which can be seen on facebook. Spiritual development is important to me and I seek teaching and community in that area. I love to spend time in nature, especially near water. Having a social life is important to me, especially gatherings around food, dancing, art events, outdoors fun, Yoga and reading.

Describe your childcare style:I believe in following the childs lead into what is engaging to them at the moment. That tells me what they are ready to learn about and explore. I am warm, a great listener with a great sense of humor and am an engaged, creative team player. It is easy for me to draw the line when it comes to safety or any other concerns parents have discussed with me.

What activities do you like to do with children:I like imaginative play, sparked by toys, a story, an idea, dress up clothes and exploring with art materials. I love to step outside so we can see what is going on in the neighborhood, following sounds, checking out construction projects, looking at plants and bugs. I love going to parks, museums, the library, musical events, cooking, group activities are always on the menu. And, of course, looking at the childs level of interest in all of the above.

Why are you interested in working as a Nanny or Babysitter? I am crazy about babies and young children! I love a job that induces tears of laughter running down my face! Working in school settings with young children left me feeling frustrated. Their need for strong one to one relationships and attention was so obvious to me. I feel really good about being able to dote on littles in the natural learning environment of home.

What qualities are important in a Nanny or Babysitter?Warmth, patience, awareness, sense of humor, accountability, inventiveness.
