Experience: I have worked with children in some way all through my life. My interest started with caring for relatives and tutoring peers. That interest grew to a passion, and I started volunteering at a daycare, a childrens shelter, and a not for profit parent education and resource service. While working towards my degree, I also worked at an early childhood education center with classes ranging from Infants to Pre K. I am currently working days per week in an Infants classroom at another early childcare center.

Experience with the following age groups: I have experience working with Infants 4 months to 12 months, 1 to 2 years, 3 to 5 years, and some experience with children 5 to 10years.

Interests and hobbies:My interest and hobbies include exploring outdoors, hiking, reading, researching interesting topics, and experiencing new things with my family and friends.

Describe your childcare style:I have a very calm, thoughtful, and patient approach to working with children. When meeting a new child, I try to build a relationship with them by showing them respect. I do this by sitting on the floor to get on their level and giving them space to feel safe. I recognize that I am a new person and they do not know me, and that it takes time to build trust and respect. My hope and what I have seen is that children will approach me in their own time. This gives the child a feeling of safety and respect of their home and their space. After our initial introduction, my interactions with children are very collaborative and play based. I love engaging with children through play. I often let them take the lead and participate in whichever game or activity they choose. I later ask for the parents opinions and offer suggestions to stimulate childrens thinking and gain their input on choices that affect them.

What activities do you like to do with children:I like to go outside with children on walks and explore their community, participate in dramatic play where the child creates a story and we are characters in their tale, build structures out of Legos or blocks, and create art work to add to our play with other objects, such as drawing a road on cardboard for the firetruck to ride on. Most of all I love working with children in their play to expand their learning and be a part of their excitement!

I recently worked as a nanny for the first time and it was amazing to get to know one child so well and connect with the family. I am very familiar with larger groups of children as well.
