Experience: My first child care experience outside of growing up surrounded by 17 cousins was teaching yoga to inner city school kids in Charleston SC. Along side a few friends and colleagues, our team created and implemented a yoga program that still thrives in the Charleston County school systems. Our program was designated for grades K to 5 and emphasized breath, asana, and meditation. I took a special liking to the younger students and guided the 1st grade classrooms. When I moved from SC to CO, I expanded my experience teaching yoga and dedicated a year to teaching 1st and 2nd graders Spanish in an after school program. I really enjoyed this setting, the children were immensely curious to learn about different cultures within the Latino community and loved sharing their new lingual skills with their siblings and parents. In addition to the after school program, I was substitute teaching at a Preschool in North Boulder. I learned much about different, unique philosophies and have since integrated many of their ideas into my own tool box.

Experience with the following age groups: Newborn through high school.

Interests and hobbies:In addition to my deeply rooted passion for yoga, I enjoy getting outside and playing in the sunshine. Be it disc golf, hiking, or reading a book in the park, I really enjoy feeling the heat of the sun on my skin. I am also really into cooking. Many folks love to creatively express him or her self with music or painting, I love to share my creativity with the world through imaginative, home cooked meals around the dinner table. And though I am not yet a talented musician, live music makes me puts me in a really happy space! My all time favorite hobby is exploring our beautiful planet and its many different cultures and terrains. I have travelled to over 21 countries and hope to visit at least one a year as my schedule allows.

Describe your childcare style:My childcare style is centered around emotional and cognitive growth, with an emphasis on building self esteem, trust and confidence in the world around them. Knowing that children learn best through sensory experiences and action, I do my best to encourage children to explore and create. These experiences can be gained through imaginative play, art and music, cooking, Spanish, yoga and other physical activities that promote motor skill development and overall health. And though I recognize the importance of active play, I also recognize the importance of down time and relaxation. With an appropriate balance of the two, and a bit of structure, each child will be nurtured in an environment that promotes developmental success and well being.

What activities do you like to do with children:I mentioned quite a few in the previous section, but I also enjoy visiting novel places like zoos or butterfly pavilions and childrens museums. Getting outside and playing is always a go to when weather permits and if not, theres always the indoor back up plan of an educational game, good book, movie if the parents would like me to take the kids, or dance party and silent disco!
