Level of education: I have a Bachelors degree in Recreation Administration from Eastern Illinois University. I have also completed some post baccalaureate courses. I went back to school in 2013 to pursue a degree in teaching. Although I decided not to complete the student teaching portion of the program, I have the coursework finished for Health Studies and Physical Education.

Additional skills or certifications: I recertified in Infant Child Adult CPR and First Aid on February 25, 2015. This certification is valid for 2 years.

Experience: I have experience with children from ages infants on up. I have been a lead infant and toddler teacher, an in home nannym Summer and Sports camp, and a nursery attendant at my church! I also have extensive education courses and am have traveled internationally!

Interests and hobbies:My hobbies include traveling, camping, hiking, biking, swimming, spending time with my dog and cat, hanging out with friends and playing sports. I have traveled internationally quite a bit and I really enjoy learning about other cultures. I also really enjoy cooking. I have been a vegetarian for about 5 years and I love trying new recipes when I get the chance.

Describe your childcare style:For the most part I am relatively laid back, however, I take my responsibilities very seriously. When working with children I have many different styles depending on the time of day and the type of childcare setting I am working in. When teaching in a daycare setting, I tend to provide more structure and planned activities due to the number of children in the classroom. When working as a nanny I tend to be a bit more flexible, allowing the child or children to be independent in making choices. In any case, during play time I tend to observe first and intervene only when necessary, especially during unstructured play time. I always take into consideration the childcare style of the parents. If there is a specific type of parenting style the parents want me to follow, I will do my best to adapt to it. When it comes to discipline I am stern, but not strict. I am a firm believer in the power of communication. I provide many safety rules and guidelines, however, I believe it is incredibly important for a child to understand the meaning behind any rule. Overall, I am very loving, patient and encouraging when it comes to teaching children.

What activities do you like to do with children:The activities I plan always depend on the age of the children, of course. I typically find out what the interests of the children are then go from there. Outdoor play time is a must, no matter the age of the children! Other activities include crafts, reading, singing or listening to music, cooking and playing indoor games.

Why are you interested in working as a Nanny or Babysitter? I have a strong interest in working as a nanny because it is what I am good at! I have worked a variety of different jobs since I graduated from college and I always end up returning to the childcare field. I find the profession extremely gratifying in many ways. Not only do I enjoy assisting parents with their number one priorities, but I enjoy seeing the children learn and grow every single day.

What qualities are important in a Nanny or Babysitter?When it comes to childcare, one must be proficient in many tasks. A great nanny will be dynamic and able to adapt well in any situation, and with any age group. He or she must also be incredibly responsible, empathetic, adventurous and fun loving.
