Experience: Growing up in a large family with nannies myself made me destined to love working with children. I began babysitting when I was about 11 years old for families in my neighborhood, as well as my parents co-workers. When I was 13 I began volunteering with the National Guard Child and Youth Program where I assisted conducting activities with kids ages 6 to 18 to help them understand and cope with their parents impending deployment to war zones. I continued volunteering with the NGCYP regularly throughout High School while also working a part time job, babysitting for various families, and maintaining an above average GPA. Once out of High School, I traveled to the East Coast and found my first nanny position with a family who had a little boy and girl. I first started babysitting them at ages 3 and 5 before officially working as a nanny for them at 4 and 6 years old. I've also worked with newborns and found it to be very rewarding. At my current job, I teach groups of up to 20 kids ages 6-13 how to rock climb weekly as well as in seasonal camps.

Experience with the following age groups: I have cared for children as young as 11 weeks and as old as 13, I am comfortable with all ages!

Interests and hobbies:Rock climbing is my main hobby and passion, but I also love hiking, yoga, camping, reading, biking, art, theater, and music.

Describe your childcare style:I believe that the children's safety is of the utmost importance and is my top priority. Second to that is their experience as a child and their growth as a person in society. I believe that being kind, patient, rational, and consistent are the key factors to successful child care. I never talk down to children or assume that they will not understand a rational concept. When children act out, I make sure they are well aware of the impact of their actions and the consequences involved with doing such before enforcing a punishment that is agreed on with the parents. I also establish rules that I am consistent with and do not deviate from.

What activities do you like to do with children:I enjoy encouraging kids to be creative and explorative. Reading books, playing imaginary, doing arts and crafts, having spontaneous dance parties, and building forts are all fun indoor activities, as well as playing with toys. I also like to get the kids out of the house to go on walks and bike rides, do trips to the library and various museums, as well as going to the park or playground.

Why are you interested in working as a Nanny or Babysitter? I have always found working with children to be the most fulfilling and rewarding job I've ever had!

What qualities are important in a Nanny or Babysitter?Understanding, patience, consistency, and fun loving. No one likes a boring nanny. Plus, kids are just trying to figure life out and making mistakes is part of that. Its our job as adults and child care professionals to help them learn and grow from those mistakes. The only way they can do that is through patience, understanding, and consistency.
