Experience: My interest in Early Childhood Education began in High School my Sophomore year when I was given the option to take a Child Development class that allowed hands on experience with children while learning a child focused curriculum. In between summers and weekends I was a camp counselor at the JCC as well as babysitter. In college I was a tutor for elementary aged children working on basic math skills and reading comprehension. Also in college my Liberal Arts degree was aimed towards Education; taking classes aimed towards child development and psychology. After graduating I found a job as an assistant teacher at a Montessori school located inside a high school that coincided with the schools curriculum. I was responsible for the care of the 3-6 age group, as well as the care and maintenance of the classroom. I also babysat for most of the families that had children at the school as well as worked as a nanny during my summers off. I stayed at that school for the years then resigned to be a full time year round nanny upon moving to Boulder from Evanston, Illinois. Experience with the following age groups: Infants through school age. Interests and hobbies:Healthy cooking, spend lots of time at the gym, as well as hiking. Leisure time with my boyfriend. Live music, festivals. Interested in Do it Yourself projects, the Montessori method, as well as networking and meeting new people. Describe your childcare style:I am easy going, fair, and fun. However, I am calm and unbiased when it comes to appropriately reprimanding children when necessary. I do not believe in "time outs"; when the situation occurs, I believe natural consequences will become valued learning experiences. As well as conflict/resolution What activities do you like to do with children:Fun, new "Pinterest" projects, sports at the park, nature walks, developmental activities, puzzles and especially cooking projects. Why are you interested in working as a Nanny or Babysitter? As soon as I got out of college I immediately started working at a preschool as I planned in college. I fell in love with Montessori Philosophy. During the summers I had time off and needed a job, I decided to work as a nanny. I found that I felt very valued and appreciated as a caregiver/teacher and also really enjoyed one on one interaction as opposed to larger groups. What qualities are important in a Nanny or Babysitter? To be reliable, warm, flexible and trustworthy. I believe it's important to have fun but that comes soon after learning what type of fun that specific child(ren) and parents are open too. Additional comments:I look forward to meeting amazing families! |
