Experience: I have two education degrees, one in Elementary Education and 22 Early childhood Education units with an emphasis in Special Education and Infant/ Toddler development. I have worked in schools from infant-toddler centers to high school to after school programs and summer camps in both private and public environments.. I have taught swimming lessons for fun and exercise for 6 years to children 6 months to adult.

Experience with the following age groups: I have experience with all age groups and ability levels. I especially enjoy working with infants and toddlers and with special education.

Interests and hobbies:Rockhounding and lapidary, computer programming, art, making soap, gardening, hiking, swimming, reading, meditation, camping, (low impact) exercising, nutrition and health and wellness, and entrepreneurship.

Describe your childcare style:I'm a very calm and patient person, but I have strict expectations about manners. I love to hear please and thank you and to help kids learn to clean up after themselves. Children learn by experience and the best way to teach is to model behavior. Beyond that I'm fairly permissive so long as the activity they are interested in is safe and age appropriate. I like getting kids outdoors to move around and play with other kids to practice social skills. I love sensory activities and imagination play. I don't worry about them getting dirty unless they have just gotten dressed for a special occasion. I'll generally let them have healthy snacks whenever they want them, but I limit sugar. I don't like having kids play on i-pads, phones, or tv until they are two, and even then limited to 10 or 20 minutes at a time. I like to let kids work out their own problems unless safety is an issue or they are too distressed to think about what to do. I don't believe that it's necessary to raise my voice. I don't believe in spanking. I will use time outs only if the parents prefer it and the situation truly warrants it. Re-diirection is always my first choice!.I'm okay with superhero play and roughhousing as long as no one is getting hurt and the kids are communicating appropriately.

What activities do you like to do with children:Generally I prefer outside stuff if the weather is appropriate. Playing soccer, bouncing balls, running, climbing, make believe, building things in a sandbox or out of cardboard. I love doing art with kids and exploring all kinds of messy sensory activities. I love reading stories. Indoor activities include imaginative play, arts and crafts, reading, etc.

Why are you interested in working as a Nanny or Babysitter? I love, love, love working with babies. They are soft and snuggly and fit just perfectly in your arms and they smell so good. I'm fascinated with Early childhood development, physical, mental, and emotional. I love their pure enthusiastic need to explore everything around them and to live every moment in the here and now. I like teaching them to do things safely and exposing them to new experiences. Above all I like being available to parents who need just a little more encouragement and knowledge about their little ones. Parenthood is hard and emotional and you aren't meant to do it alone.

What qualities are important in a Nanny or Babysitter? The way I see it, my job as a nanny is to make your life easier. So please let me know how I can do that. I can't speak for everyone who is a nanny, but personally I just understand kids. Every cry and whine and laugh makes sense to me and their motivations are more clearly spoken to me than spoken language.

Additional comments:I'm looking forward to getting to know you and your family!
