Experience: Caring for children is at the core of who I am and what I love. Before college, I nannied for several years, with all ages. For two years during school, I worked in an infant classroom in a high-quality childcare center. This job expanded my abilities of working one-on-one with infants to being able to manage a classroom of varying needs, as well as directing staff. Since moving to Denver, I have worked as a Lead Teacher in an infant classroom in a childcare center (8 infants from 3-18 months). Next, I worked with two babies in a nanny share, starting when they were 3 months and 4 months old. I was with them for a year! And currently, I work as a nanny manager for a wonderful family with two girls, 3 and 5. My manager roles include rotating seasonal clothes, organizing as needed, purchasing new clothes/shoes for the girls when needed, scheduling appointments (haircut/dentist/doctor), occasional grocery shopping, kids laundry, and taking in the parents' dry cleaning.

Experience with the following age groups: Newborn through school age. However, my passion is babies and toddlers!

Interests and hobbies:I love to be outside! I am passionate about rowing, mountain biking, skiing. I also write as a hobby. I love traveling, and am building more time for new places into my life!

Describe your childcare style:I follow the child's lead. Young children learn to relate to and understand the world around them largely through play. I am calm and kind, but also firm - I am able to enforce boundaries when needed. I do this through the use of positive discipline techniques that are respectful to the child. Academic skills like early literacy and math can be easily integrated into activities like reading-aloud, drawing, and building with blocks. When working with young infants, my first priority is to create a calm, predictable routine. For babies, routine is synonymous with curriculum. They learn that someone will always respond when they are hungry, wet, or tired. A prompt, gentle response from a loving caregiver is the corner stone of secure attachment. The baby learns that they can trust the world to meet their basic needs, and so they feel comfortable engaging in their environment. A young infant is incredibly new to everything in our world, and so they are easily overstimulated. Up until about four months, most babies have a limited interest in toys. They are taking time to explore the physical characteristics and limitations of their own bodies. Only then do they begin to investigate materials separate from themselves. When a baby is playing with a toy, I am conscious of not interrupting until they look up and show that they are ready to engage with me. Playtime is as simple as laying on a blanket on the floor, with a small cloth or wooden ring nearby to explore. This time is often fairly quiet, while I sit attentively nearby. Through this practice, they gradually develop their focus and attention span. This translates well into independent play as they grow and become mobile.

What activities do you like to do with children:I like to be active with children, and love taking them outside year-round. With proper clothing, there is no bad weather! Some of my favorites are story-time at the library, going to parks, going on child-led walks, and going swimming. When we are inside, I enjoy reading and drawing with the children in my care. Every child is different, and so the activities will vary depending on their interests.

Why are you interested in working as a Nanny or Babysitter? I deeply value the bonds that are formed by working closely with children and their families. Being a nanny is so rewarding for me. I can't imagine having any other job!

What qualities are important in a Nanny or Babysitter? As a nanny, my first priority is to make sure I'm on the same page with the parents. Communication is key to ensure a good working relationship, and children thrive off that feeling of security. I am patient, empathetic, and warm. I have the ability to remain calm in chaotic situations. I am willing to bring things up that need to be discussed, rather than letting them sit and become a source of resentment. Through communication and mutual respect, any conflict can be resolved.
