Experience: I have been working with children since 2009. I didn’t envision myself working in childcare growing up; I simply knew I wanted to help make the world a better place. I landed a summer camp position when I was a freshman in college, and began babysitting for many families I met through the program year round. Early on in my childcare experience, I began to understand children on a very deep level. Given the right tools and nourishment, I know any child can grow up to be a change maker and impeccable human being. I dabbled a bit with the idea of social work, but then slowly gravitated towards education. I started learning more about child development in school, and also picked up more and more jobs in the industry. I nannied for multiple families as their after school sitter, climbed up the latter at the summer camp I worked at and became a head teacher, and even worked as a para for a young, wonderful girl with Cerebral Palsy. Since graduating from college, I have worked for a family for almost a year and a half watching their adorable twin babies 8 hours a day. It’s not always easy work, but I learn more about myself through working with these kids than any lesson I learn in the classroom. Experience with the following age groups: Infant through teenage. Interests and hobbies:Yoga, biking, rollerblading, hiking, reading, walking, playing with dogs, cooking, time with friends and family, sun bathing, beaching, vacationing, smiling! : ) Describe your childcare style:Mindful Parenting: I draw deep inspiration from Dr. Shefali. I believe in parenting the child you have, not the child you desire to have. I believe in getting on their level, eye to eye, and communicating with them. I believe in moments of silence/ separation: time to diffuse, let it all out, scream and tantrum, if you must. I believe in flexibility. Make sure you mean your ‘no' before you say no, because sometimes a rigid 'no' may not always be the best for everyone involved. Though, I also believe in the power of sticking to your ‘no', because sometimes it is necessary and the child doesn’t need to understand, mommy/ daddy/ nanny simply do know best. I believe in unconditional love, because no matter what, at the end of the day, a child thrives in a loving environment. And last, but certainly not least, I believe in self care time for mom and dad. I think parent guilt needs to be set a side, and parents must take the time to fill their own cups, and truly know that a happy, nourished mommy/ daddy means a happier child! What activities do you like to do with children:Play outside: bike ride, wagon walks, stroller walks, zoo, etc. Indoor fun: legos, music class, aquarium, play dough, coloring / crafts, puzzles, sing songs, cook, etc. Summer fun: back yard sprinklers, chalk, bubbles. I also enjoy helping parents have peace of mind. What qualities are important in a Nanny or Babysitter? What qualities are important in a Nanny/Babysitter? Respect for the family’s parenting style.
