Nanny Job Details

Job ID: 5774
Location: Longmont, CO

Please describe your family:
My wife is a professor of dance and I am an arts administrator working in the performing arts. We have one 3 year old son whom we adore. As a family, we spend a lot of time outdoors hiking and riding bikes. We eat and cook together whenever possible. Arts are an important part of our lives so we are frequently going to see musical theater, concerts and of course live dance. My wife loves yoga and we have introduced our son to gymnastics and dance. I'm a runner. We enjoy travel and spending time with friends. Our extended families live far away so we have built community through our arts friends and parents of our sons' friends. We are foodies and enjoy going out for a good meal and making meals at home. In many ways we are typical nuclear family. We do our best to be conscientious about recycling, not be wasteful, treat people as they would like to be treated, be respectful, and open minded.

Please describe why you are looking for a nanny:
We live in NE Ohio and every July travel to Colorado (where I used to live) to run a summer dance intensive which we are running in collaboration with Boulder Ballet. Back home our son is normally in daycare. We are looking for a nanny to watch our child while we are running the dance program Monday through Friday. We may need occasional evenings or a short 3-4 hour shift on the weekend, but evenings and weekends are not required for this position.

Describe the child(ren) you need a nanny for:
We have one son who just turned 3 years old in May. he loves the outdoors, going to playgrounds and anything that involves animals. He has recently taken an interest in running around in small streams. He enjoys hiking with us. He likes to draw, read books, build with legos and Magna Tiles. He sleeps in his own room and we typically put him down for a 2 hour nap from 12:30 to 2:30. We do allow limited TV which we try to keep between zero and 1 hour a day. Less the better, but he's started getting into shows and its a rare day he doesn't ask to watch an episode of Cars, Monster's Inc, Paw patrol or an animal / nature show, particularly before his bath or bedtime. He goes down pretty easily for bed when it happens on time, which is 12:30 for naps and 7:30 for nighttime. He's been in his own room since 6 months and its very unusual for him to cry when you leave the room or wake up after falling asleep (if he does its usually because he's sick) although he will ask you to read books or sing to him to delay your departure (which is pretty cute). He's a good eater. While he does have a preference for chicken, berries, pasta, cheerios, and gold fish, he readily eats various veggies (including broccoli!) and other types of meat. We limit his sugar intake as best we can. We started potty training last Christmas but he stills wears pull ups at night which we are planning to phase out soon. He has the occasional accidents when he's caught up in an activity and forgets to go, which we easily prevent by reminding him to go when we notice he hasn't gone in a while. He is initially shy in new social situations or meeting a new person, but quickly warms up to others and is soon playing with new friends.

Describe your home setting: We will be living in a 5 bedroom house in suburban Longmont with large fenced in back yard. While we run the program we have an instructor staying at the house who is gone during the day with us. The house is quite large and there is plenty of space for everyone, including separate play areas for our son, who will have his own bedroom.

We will try to make premade meals that you will heat up as much as possible but you should be prepared to make a meal for our son yourself, cleaning up after our son, putting his toys away after use, tidying his room etc. Occasional shopping for his needs, like his food, if we are out of something, but this should not happen often. Essentially, any tasks or errands would be child related, and not related to the rest of the household.

Reading to him, going to playgrounds, parks, nature walks / hikes, taking him to activities when possible, arts and crafts , drawing, playing with him and his toys. We are unlikely to have our pets with us, but in the case that we do, we have two mini Aussie Shepards, 8 years old in perfect health and very well trained. They would only be present if our plans to leave them with relatives falls through and we will utilize doggy day care for them.
