Experience with the following age groups: Infant through school age.

Interests and hobbies:I love power-walking with my dog; my passions are animals, and dogs in particular, children (of course), ancient history (Rome and Greece); reading a variety of texts and novels; art; music (love opera, but also classic rock); languages.

Describe your childcare style:That depends, of course, upon the age. But all ages need structure and a gentle hand to guide them over and through all milestones that come with growing up. Children need to learn through play, through experiencing first hand what life has to offer. Being outdoors is important to me, to feel and touch mud, sand, stones, rocks, grass, etc. Children also need to be offered choices instead of just telling them what's for lunch or snack. How else can they learn how to make good choices if that opportunity is always taken away from them. Having said that, I also believe in being firm when their safety is considered. Safety is my number one priority. Infants need a lot of hugs and kisses to feel safe and loved. And I supply plenty of that. It's important for a baby's development to be in close contact with the caregiver, be it a parent or a nanny.

What activities do you like to do with children:Again, that depends upon the age. I love dancing to fun music, I love to listen to Jeff and Paige (a couple who makes music that educates through dance, song and music) and maybe discuss what's being said in their songs, I love doing fun art projects (finger painting, building fairy trees, constructing mermaids' groves, building with legos/duplos, mega blocks, coming up with our own puzzles), going to museums (WOW museum, children's museum in Denver, Aquarium, the Zoo), water play in the summer, baking cookies, reading with my charges or to my charges.

Why are you interested in working as a Nanny or Babysitter? I was with children all my life, first my own, and then as a middle school teacher, as a substitute teacher, and, for the last 6 years, as a nanny. Children are our future and there is nothing more important than raising responsible, critical thinking future adults. Children open my eyes to so many wondrous things that adults sometimes forget in their hectic lives. Looking through a child's eyes is rewarding on so many levels. Not only do I teach them, they do teach me many things as well.

What qualities are important in a Nanny or Babysitter?A nanny needs to be flexible, quick thinking, has the ability to multi-task, needs to be dependable, safety conscious, compassionate, fun, no nanny can be afraid of getting a bit dirty, needs to be passionate about children, punctual, trustworthy, safe.
