Experience: I have been an elementary teacher for seven years. I have been a babysitter/nanny for 30+ years. I have been a classroom teacher for seven years in international, US, public, charter, and private schools. As a teacher I have worked with children who have special needs in the context of a classroom. Their needs have varied including: specific learning difficulties, children on the autism spectrum, children with special behavioral and emotional needs, children learning English as their second language, and children with ADD. In addition, I was a teacher’s aide for one year. I have been a travel nanny for two families, with whom I still keep in touch. I was a wilderness camp counselor for two summers. I have also been babysitting children, newborn through school age, since I was twelve years old.

Experience with the following age groups: Newborn – High-school.

Interests and hobbies:I am well-rounded because I am not afraid to try new things. I have participated in numerous types of activities: physical, academic, and artistic. I love, love, love skiing. In the summer I love to hike. I enjoy anything that gets me outside and active in nature, paddle-boarding, swimming, surfing, kayaking. I also really enjoy the arts. I have been in several community theater musical and dramatic productions. I enjoy reading, my favorite genre is historical fiction. I like to be creative. This has taken several forms: cooking, baking, decorating apartments as I have moved, thrift store shopping, writing skits for my classes, developing fun lessons, and coloring.

Describe your childcare style:I enjoy balance in everything. I like to play and be active with children. However, I also want to help children develop the ability to entertain themselves and experience the benefits of downtime. I think I am kind but firm. I expect children to mind the adults that are in charge. I am open to different styles of discipline and have worked with several including: “Love and Logic” and “The Stoplight Approach.” I also read The Soul of Discipline and Simplicity Parenting by Kim John-Payne and attended one of his trainings while working in a Waldorf charter school that used his behavior management system. I really like his philosophy of child rearing. Some of the highlights for me are that it is developmentally based, it cherishes children and childhood, and it takes the inner and outer environment of the children into account.

What activities do you like to do with children:One of the reasons I love to work with children is that the options for activities are endless. I like to spend time outside in the following ways: hiking, exploring, biking, skiing, swimming, kayaking, and playing at parks. At home I like to play with toys, do arts and crafts, play games, read, cook, bake, and teach children to help around the house. I also love to go to museums, performance arts productions, and local special events.
